Late last month, T-Mobile launched a new promotion that reduced the down payments of all of its devices to $0. The promo is slated to run through the summer, but today T-Mobile revealed that two devices will be exiting the offer early.
T-Mobile has confirmed to AllThingsD that the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S will be removed from its $0 down payment promotion effective tomorrow, Aug. 10. The carrier didn't provide much of an explanation for the decision, saying only that "As is the nature of promotions, pricing moves are temporary." Once it's yanked from the promo, the iPhone 5 will once again require a down payment of at least $145.99, followed by 24 monthly payments of $21 each. The iPhone 4 will still be included with the $0 down offer.
T-Mobile's decision to pull the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S from its latest promo comes a disappointment. While the deal did raise the monthly installment plan of the iPhone 5 to make up for the $0 down payment, the lack of an entry fee likely helped many folks pick up a shiny new iPhone when they otherwise may not be able to. Of course, the iPhone 5's down payment didn't stop it from representing a good chunk of T-Mobile's smartphone sales during Q2 2013, but I'm sure that some folks will be bummed when they go to a store to take advantage of this $0 down offer only to learn that the iPhone 5 no longer qualifies.
As I mentioned before, T-Mobile's $0 down promotion is slated to run for the remainder of this summer. All of T-Mobile's devices are available through the deal, including the Galaxy S 4 and Lumia 925. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S will only be included for a few more hours, though, so if you'd like to snag a Magenta iPhone without opening your wallet in-store, you'd better drop what you're doing right now and hit up T-Mobile's online store or head down to your neighborhood brick and mortar shop.
