Motorola is no stranger to creating special versions of its DROID RAZR devices for Verizon, having created limited edition red versions of both the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX HD for employees of the big red carrier. It appears that that's a trend that'll continue with the upcoming DROID Ultra, as some photos of the new device with a red racing stripe have made their way online.

Posted to Chinese microblogging service Sina Weibo by user "Houdabao," the photos show what's said to be the back of a DROID Ultra with a red stripe that's set against its black Kevlar-coated rear panel and reportedly wraps around to the front on its chin. At the bottom of the phone, the words "Limited Edition" are printed beneath the Verizon logo that's been present on the previously-leaked DROID Ultra renders. Houdabao also claims that the DROID Ultra will sport a 5-inch display and a body that's a little over 6mm thick.

One detail that's still up in the air is exactly how this limited edition DROID Ultra will be distributed. We've seen Verizon offer several limited edition smartphones to its employees in the past, like the aforementioned DROID RAZR models as well as a red DROID DNA and gray Windows Phone 8X, so it's possible that this new DROID could be intended for the big red carrier's reps. 

In addition to these limited edition DROID Ultra photos, a few details on the DROID models that us common folk will have access to have surfaced. Android Police notes that the FCC filings for the XT1030 and XT1080 contain information related to the battery packs that'll be included with the upcoming DROID Mini, DROID Ultra, and DROID MAXX.

According to the FCC's documentation, the XT1030/DROID Mini will pack a 2,000mAh SNN5916B battery with inductive charging. The XT1080 filing actually contains listings for two batteries, with the larger 3,500mAh SNN5925A battery likely belonging to the XT1080M/DROID MAXX and the smaller 2,130mAh SNN5924A battery powering the XT1080/DROID Ultra.

Interestingly, the FCC says that there's "an inductive charging accessory integrated within battery model SNN5925A," but there's no mention of wireless charging for the SNN5924A pack. It'd be kind of strange to see Motorola include inductive charging on the DROID Mini and DROID MAXX but not on the DROID Ultra, but it's possible that Moto omitted it in order to keep the Ultra's body slim.

Verizon is holding an event later today at which the carrier has said that it'll "unveil the next generation of one of [its] most popular family of devices." If there's one family of products that Verizon is known for, it's the DROID line, and so it seems likely that the DROID Mini, DROID Ultra, and DROID MAXX will soon be given a formal introduction.
