Today's a big day for Sprint, as the big yellow carrier has two major announcements to share with everyone. First up, Sprint has announced that the HTC 8XT will be available starting July 19 for $99.99 with a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. The 8XT is Sprint's first Windows Phone 8 smartphone and is actually just the second Windows Phone-powered device to land on the Now Network. Here's what you can expect to see from the HTC 8XT once it lands on Sprint's shelves later this month:
The HTC 8XT may not have a spec sheet that'll blow your hair back with bleeding edge features, but it looks like a respectable Windows Phone 8 handset for a carrier that's had a pretty limited selection of Windows Phone products to date. Sprint is also planning to launch the Samsung ATIV S Neo with Windows Phone 8 this summer. However, Sprint has yet to reveal exact pricing and availability details for that model.
In addition to its big Windows Phone 8 launch news, Sprint announced this morning that it has officially completed its acquisition of Clearwire. This news comes hot on the heels of Clearwire's shareholders voting to approve Sprint's buyout offer. The acquisition of Clearwire isn't the only major move that Sprint has planned this week, as SoftBank has said that it plans to consummate its deal to acquire a majority stake in Sprint on July 10.
