Just days after the first Google Play edition phones officially went on sale, a new report suggests that we may soon see another manufacturer join the program. Pocket-lint reports that it's been told by Kevin Ho, head of Huawei's handset division, that his company is in talks with Google to "analyze the possibility bringing out a Huawei Ascend P6 with Google Edition." Announced last week, the Ascend P6 runs Android 4.2.2 beneath Huawei's custom Emotion UI, which includes features like a custom Me Widget and added camera features.
Ho's statement is completely different than one given by Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, at the Ascend P6's unveiling. Yu told those in attendance that Huawei had no plans to offer a Google Play edition-flavored Ascend P6 because of the added benefits that its custom Emotion UI adds and the work that it had put in to making it integrate with the P6's hardware.
Right now it's difficult to say whether or not a Google Play edition of the Huawei Ascend P6 will ever actually be released, but fans of the P6 hardware at least now have a glimmer of hope that such a device could be created. While Huawei may be proud of the work that its done with the Emotion UI, a Google Play edition of the Ascend P6 could be a good way for the company to get its flagship hardware into the hands of more consumers, especially those in the U.S. that don't typically see high-end Huawei products. Would you be interested in a Google Play edition of the Huawei Ascend P6?
