Following its 2012 launch of the water resistant Hydro smartphone, Kyocera today announced that it's expanding its line of Hydro-branded devices for Sprint, Boost Mobile and U.S. Cellular. Both Sprint and Boost will launch the Kyocera Hydro Edge, a device that features an IP 57 rating for protection against dust and immersion in 3.28 feet (1 meter) of water for up to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, U.S. Cellular customers can snag the Kyocera Hydro XTRM. Like the Hydro Edge, U.S. Cellular's Hydro XTRM is IP 57 rated for resistance to both dust and water immersion. Rounding out the Hydro XTRM's feature list is:
As far as availability goes, Sprint and Boost Mobile plan to launch the Hydro Edge this summer. Pricing will be announced by both carriers as we get closer to the Hydro Edge's launch. U.S. Cellular customers won't have to wait quite as long to put the Hydro XTRM's dust and water resistance to the test, as USCC will begin selling the XTRM online today and in stores on May 24. The Hydro XTRM will carry a price tag of $29.99 with a two-year contract and instant rebate.
