Following announcements from both Sprint and T-Mobile that revealed delays in their Galaxy S 4 launch plans, Samsung has come forward with an explanation about what's causing all of the headaches. In a statement sent to AllThingsD, Samsung says that its initial supply of Galaxy S 4 units may be limited due to "overwhelming global demand" for the device. Samsung added that it expects to be able to meet the demand for its new handset in the coming weeks. The company's full statement:
"Due to overwhelming global demand of Galaxy S 4, the initial supply may be limited. We expect to fulfill inventory to meet demands in the coming weeks.”
T-Mobile had planned to begin accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy S 4 today and Sprint was preparing to launch the device both in-stores and online on April 27, but both carriers have announced delays in the past 24 hours. Now T-Mobile will begin accepting orders on April 29, and although Sprint will still allow online purchases of the S 4 on April 27, its in-store launch has been put off to an undetermined time. These delays are definitely a bummer for Sprint and T-Mobile customers, but with Samsung's expectation that it'll fill inventory to meet demands in the coming weeks, hopefully the two carriers won't run into any more issues.
Meanwhile, AT&T has said that it expects to launch the Galaxy S 4 on April 27, so it appears that the big blue carrier is unaffected by the "overwhelming global demand" for now. Verizon revealed this morning that it'll begin stocking the S 4 on May 30, giving it and Samsung plenty of time to prepare.
