It may have happened a few days later than anticipated, but Sprint has officially flipped its 4G LTE switch in the 21 new markets that were named in a leaked document earlier this month. Sprint just announced that its LTE service is now live in 21 new cities sprinkled throughout the country, including major areas like Los Angeles, Calif., Memphis, Tenn., and Charlotte, N.C. The full list of new Sprint LTE markets is as follows:
This latest expansion brings Sprint's 4G LTE network coverage up to a total of 88 markets. It's good to see some big towns like Los Angeles and Memphis finally gaining admission to the Sprint LTE club, and I'm sure that the residents of those areas are glad that they no longer have to sit by with just a 3G connection while they watch smaller towns having all the 4G fun.
There's also some good news for today for some Sprint customers that are in areas without 4G coverage. Along with this new LTE expansion, Sprint has revealed another handful of markets that will be gaining 4G service in the coming months. The list is a long one and includes places like Orlando, Fla., Portland, Ore., Fargo, N.D., and Tulsa, Okla. The full list of newly-announced upcoming LTE markets looks like this:
