Verizon has been the home of several ruggedized Casio handsets to date, including dumbphones like the Ravine, Ravine 2, Boulder and the Android-powered Commando. It's been a while since we've seen any new Casio devices hit Verizon's shelves, but an entry on the Federal Communications Commission website has revealed what appears to be a refreshed version of the aforementioned Commando model.
As spotted by PhoneScoop, this new Commando features the model number C811, a bump up from the original Commando's C771 model number. Spec details for this new C811 Commando are still light, but the user manual included with the FCC's report mentions that it'll come preinstalled with an 8GB microSD card and will feature a rear camera with flash, VGA front camera and mil-spec 810 ruggedization, which includes shock, dust and water resistance. Other parts of the FCC filing show that the C811 Commando will sport a set of four capacitive Android navigation keys on its face as well as NFC, GSM, CDMA and 4G LTE support.
While not everyone needs a ruggedized handset in their lives, there are quite a few people that appreciate having a phone that can take a few tumbles and dunks in water and keep on ticking. That's why it's good to see that Casio and Verizon are prepping a follow-up to the original Commando, giving those customers that want a rugged device the option of picking up an Android-powered smartphone rather than sticking them with a dumbphone. Now we just need to wait for Casio and Verizon to share the C811's availability details so that interested consumers will know when they'll be able to start giving this thing a beating.
