Last month, T-Mobile began rolling out an update for its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to enable support for the magenta carrier's new 4G LTE network, which is currently live in seven different markets. There's been some speculation that the Nokia Lumia 810 on T-Mobile might receive the same treatment, but T-Mo confirmed to our friends at TmoNews tonight that that's not the case. Big Magenta says that while the Lumia 810 includes a chipset that provides the hardware capability for 42Mbps HSPA+ and LTE support, the phone won't automatically access its LTE network and won't be updated to do so. T-Mobile's full statement on the matter:
"While the Nokia Lumia 810 features a chipset, which provides the hardware capability to support both HSPA+42 and LTE, the device will not automatically access our LTE network and, at this time, it will not receive an update to do so.
T-Mobile is committed to enhancing customers’ experience with our devices, including providing upgrades to device features and operating systems, and T-Mobile aims to deliver software upgrades when it will provide a better experience for our customers. We’ll share additional information on upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 810 when they are available."
This news is a bit of a bummer for Lumia 810 owners as well as all Windows Phone fans on T-Mobile. T-Mo currently sells or will soon sell LTE-capable devices running three major mobile operating systems—Android, iOS and BlackBerry 10—but it looks like anyone that wants to get some Live Tiles action going on T-Mobile's LTE network will have to wait for a new Windows Phone device. Recent reports have suggested that the aluminum-clad Nokia Catwalk may hit T-Mobile this summer, and while details on the Catwalk's spec list are still light, LTE support could make the cut if the phone turns out to be the Lumia 920 successor that it's rumored to be.
