HP took more than a few people by surprise with its recent announcement of the Slate 7, a 7-inch tablet that runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The slate was originally slated to arrive on store shelves sometime in April, but now it looks like HP may have another surprise related to the Slate 7 for us, this time related to the device's availability. As noted by Engadget, the Slate 7 product page on HP's website now lists the device as being "available June 2013," a couple of months later than the release timeframe previously given by HP.
As noted before, HP's Slate 7 packs a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024x600, as well as a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, 8GB storage, 1GB RAM and what looks to be a fairly vanilla build of Android 4.1. One aspect of the Slate 7 that will likely appeal to anyone in the market for a new tablet is its price, which HP has set at $169. Obviously there are already quite a few 7-inch Android tablets available on the market, but that price tag could help HP's offering to stand out a bit more in that crowd. The bad news is that it sounds like anyone that's been drawn to the Slate 7 because of that price will have to wait a couple months longer than previously anticipated before they'll actually be able to buy one.
UPDATE: HP has told Engadget that the "June 2013" listing was a mistake and that the Slate 7 is still due to arrive in April. Carry on.
