It's looking increasingly like this is the time of the smartwatch in the mobile industry. After recent rumors have sprung up suggesting that Apple, Google and Samsung are all hard at work on their own smartwatch products, a new report claims that LG is also prepping a piece of wristwear. A source speaking to The Korea Times says that a smartwatch is "one major part of many currently non-commercialized products under development" at LG. The tipster wouldn't say whether LG's watch will be powered by Android or Firefox OS, but both are said to be possibilities. In addition to a smartwatch, LG is reportedly prepping its own "innovative smart product" that's described as being similar to Google's Glass headwear.
Considering that several of the other major players in the wireless industry are already rumored to be prepping smartwatch products, it's not much of a surprise to hear that LG is planning to throw its hat watch into the ring as well. While the source of today's doesn't specify whether LG's smartwatch will run Android or Firefox, the former seems like the more probably option considering how LG long it's been since the Life's Good crew last released a product that wasn't powered by Google's green robot. What will be interesting is seeing how the watches from Apple, Google, LG and Samsung all differ, especially when if the last three all end up running some version of Android. Which features would a smartwatch need to include to convince you to open your wallet?
