The Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II may be the two major pieces of Samsung's mobile ship right now, but today the company announced that it's taking the time to refresh one of its other popular smartphones. Samsung this morning introduced the Galaxy S II Plus, a new version of the Galaxy S II that originally made its debut in February 2011. Here's how the spec sheet for the Galaxy S II Plus breaks down:
The spec sheet of the Galaxy S II Plus is fairly similar to that of the OG Galaxy S II, with the new model gaining NFC and the support for 64GB microSD cards, but losing a bit of built-in storage. The biggest change between the two handsets is with the software, as the Galaxy S II Plus ships with Android 4.1.2 preinstalled. The original Galaxy S II came to market with Android 2.3 and is currently sitting on Android 4.0, though an update to Android 4.1 is coming.
While the Galaxy S II Plus's specs obviously won't stand up to Samsung's current flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, this updated version of the Galaxy S II could be a worthwhile option for folks looking for a more affordable handset, especially those that were considering picking up the original S II. Samsung hasn't said when the Galaxy S II Plus will launch or how much it'll cost when it does, but you can peruse the company's official announcement at the link below until we hear more.
