Looks like owners of Toshiba's Excite 7.7 tablet are getting a nice holiday surprise, as Toshiba has begun rolling a Jelly Bean update to its 7.7-inch slate. As noted by Android Police, the update weighs in at around 348MB and brings the Excite 7.7 up to Android 4.1.1. Announced earlier this year by Google, Android 4.1 brings with it tweaks like expandable notifications, Google Now and Project Butter, the last of which is meant to help make using a Jelly Bean-powered device a smoother experience.
The Excite 7.7 originally launched in June 2012 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in tow. We haven't heard much about Jelly Bean updates from Toshiba recently, which makes this new software for the Excite 7.7 even more exciting for owners of the device. There's no changelog for this update quite yet, and visiting the page named in the screenshot above brings up an entry that simply reads "Document Not Available," so it's not yet clear what kinds of goodies (outside of the usual JB ones) that Excite 7.7 owners can expect from this update. Still, a bump up to Android 4.1.1 is big news, so Excite 7.7 users ought to fire up their device's software update functionality and see if there are any treats waiting for them.
