Nokia today introduced the newest member of its Windows Phone 8 family, the Lumia 620. Dubbed the company's "most affordable" Windows Phone 8 handset, the Lumia 620 will be priced at around $249 when it launches in Asia in January 2013. Debuts in Europe, the Middle East and other markets are also planned, but there's been no mention yet of any U.S. availability.
When it comes to its feature list, the latest Lumia touts a "dual-shot color technique" that adds a second layer of colored polycarbonate that's either transparent or translucent on top of a base layer, which is meant to create color blends and depth effects. The 620's face features a 3.8-inch 800x480 ClearBlack display and VGA camera, and there's a second 5-megapixel shooter on its rear. Inside is a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD slot, NFC and a 1,300mAh battery. Like other Lumia models, the 620 will be available in several colors, including lime green, orange, magenta, yellow, cyan, white and black, and its colored shells are also exchangeable.
The Lumia 620 is the follow-up to the Lumia 610 that Nokia introduced back in February, and while the 620 comes in at around the same price as the 610, it includes some notable upgrades over its predecessor. The 620's a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip is a step up from the 610's single-core Snapdragon S1 processor, and the 620 also packs double the RAM (512MB vs. 256MB) and Windows Phone 8.
While we'll just have to wait and see if the Lumia 620 makes an official stateside debut, its low price means that anyone that really wants one may be able to import a unit for an affordable price if a U.S. launch never happens.
