The AT&T version of Samsung's Galaxy S III isn't the only flavor of that handset getting an update this week, as the international model (GT-I9300) has also started receiving its own bump up to a newer version of Android. This update brings the global Galaxy S III up to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and, as noted by SamMobile, is currently rolling out to models in Poland. While the move from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 may not seem like much, this update is actually said to pack a number of new features. For example, the multi-window feature from the Galaxy Note II has been included, allowing S III owners to run two apps on-screen at the same time.

Another new feature that the international Galaxy S III is gaining with this Android 4.1.2 update is smart rotation. This setting makes the phone recognize the orientation of your face using the front-facing camera and prevents it from rotating in a direction that you don't want it to, like if you're trying to read the device while laying down. Along with multi-window and smart rotation, the S III's update packs in Page Buddy, the new Gallery app from the Note II, continuous input support for the Samsung keyboard and both the Paper Artist and Group Cast apps.

While I'm sure that many Galaxy S III owners are waiting for an update to Android 4.2, this 4.1.2 bump appears to pack in quite a few new features for them to tinker with. Many users were hoping that Samsung would bring the multi-window feature from the Note II to the S III, and it's good to see that the company did just that rather than make the functionality exclusive to its new phone/tablet hybrid. It's not clear exactly when U.S. carrier-branded Galaxy S III models might see a similar update, but hey, at least users now know that Samsung has opted to port the Note II's multi-window feature to the S III.
