Windows Phone 8 devices finally began making their way into the hands of consumers this month, but the debut of Microsoft's new operating system hasn't been totally smooth, as some owners have reported that their handset will sometimes reboot itself for no reason. Microsoft told ZDNet earlier this month that it was looking into the problem, and it has now confirmed to AllThingsD that it's identified what it believes to be causing the issue. The company added that it's planning to push a patch out over the air in December. Microsoft's statement is as follows:
“We’re continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners. We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December.”
While the cause of the rebooting problem and the official rollout date of the fix are a mystery for now, I'm sure that many Windows Phone 8 folk are glad to hear that Microsoft has a fix in the works. After all, a phone that reboots itself is a bit of an issue, and it's only made worse when the thing restarts itself out of nowhere.
