Today may be new Nexus day for many Android fans, but that doesn't mean that folks not planning on picking up a new device can't have a good day as well. Some folks are reporting that their GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus units have already gotten an update to Android 4.2, and as is usually the case, a direct download link has been discovered. An XDA-developers forum member has posted the Google download link for the "takju" version of the Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play store, but the user also says that it can be flashed over the "yakju" model as well. Users not comfortable with flashing their own update can wait for the OTA version to be pushed by Google.
The Galaxy Nexus isn't the only device with an Android 4.2 direct download link this morning, as the Nexus 7's file has been found as well. Once again, users that don't want to wait for the OTA update's rollout can manually flash the new version of Jelly Bean right now. There's no word on when either the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 OTA updates will start being sent out by Google, but anyone that isn't in the mood to do a little computer work for the update can simply wait for El Goog to release it.
Finally, it's worth noting that the folks at Android Police have learned that the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 will go on sale on the U.S. Google Play store starting at 9:00 A.M. PST, 12:00 P.M. EST today. That's still around four hours away as of this writing, but hey, I'm sure that you can find something to do to kill a little more time, like flashing one of the aforementioned Android 4.2 updates if you've got either a Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 lying around. We'll be sure to give you a heads up once sales at the Play store actually get underway. Until then, be sure to let us know if you decide to manually update a GalNex or N7 to Android 4.2!
