Nokia isn't the only company to report on its third quarter 2012 performance today, as Verizon has also shared the results of its quarter with the world. Verizon's numbers look to be a bit more positive than the Finnish firms, as the big red carrier posted service revenues of $16.2 billion for the quarter along with total revenues of $19 billion. Verizon also reported that its average revenue per account (ARPA) grew 6.5 percent in the quarter to finish at $145.42 per month.
When it comes to customer numbers, Verizon says that it added 1.8 million retail net connections in the third quarter, which includes 1.5 million postpaid connections. That brings the total number of Verizon connections to 95.6 million, 90.4 million of which are postpaid. Verizon also revealed in today's report that 53 percent of its retail postpaid customers are now packing smartphones, which is up from 50 percent in the previous quarter.
The number of connections added by Verizon in the previous two quarters were 1.2 million and 734,000, so Verizon appears to be doing alright on that front. It's also continuing to see an increase in the number of customers using smartphones, which I'm sure Verizon is pleased about. The big red carrier says that it now has 4G LTE service in 419 markets across the country, blowing past the goal that it set for itself back in March 2012. UPDATE: Verizon indicating this morning during its conference call that it sold 3.4 million Android devices in Q3, 3 million of which were LTE-capable. On the iOS side of things, Verizon moved 3.1 million iPhones. Of that 3.1 million, 21 percent were iPhone 5s. Finally, Verizon revealed that 13 percent of its postpaid subscribers are now on a Share Everything plan.
