A little bit of a chance this week with the addition of the Galaxy Note II to the lineup, but the iPhone 5 takes the top spot yet again. After a brief absence of the iPhone in my life, I've yet again recognized why I love the iPhone so much, it's all about the apps. In my view, and in my opinion, they remain by and large far better than what Android presents. 

That's not to say that devices like the Galaxy S III and One X are lesser devices, far from it. The Galaxy S III and One X are the top Android devices, at least until the One X+ arrives when it will level the playing field with the Galaxy S III. Right now, the One X is a slight notch below the S III, but the arrival of the One X+ should equal out with the Galaxy S III. 

The DROID RAZR M remains the best mid-range Android phone I can find, it's too bad it's only available on Verizon and not in GSM format. I'd scoop this one up as a backup without question. 

The Galaxy Note II makes its appearance on my list this week and with the official launch 10 days out, I imagine it'll be a constant companion in the near future. I really believe the Note II is a niche device, but a niche device that will sell millions. If you need a combination smartphone, tablet, this is THE device to use.

Apple's iPhone 5 features an attractive hardware design as well as 4G LTE connectivity on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon here in the U.S. While iOS itself is starting to show its age compared to other platforms out there, the quality of apps available to users on iOS is high. 

Next up is the HTC One X, whose design I'm a big fan of. (Especially when it comes to the white model.) The One X earns points for having AT&T 4G LTE connectivity and a pretty good camera of its own, as well a very nice 720p display.

The U.S. flavor of Samsung's Galaxy S III also makes the cut, packing HSPA+ connectivity on T-Mobile and LTE support for AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular and Verizon. The Galaxy S III also has a 720p display and several other high-end specs, but when it comes to picking an Android skin, I prefer HTC's Sense to Samsung's TouchWiz.

Also in my rankings is the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II. The phone-tablet hybrid has a pretty impressive spec list, including a 5.5-inch 1280x720 HD Super AMOLED display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Note II's size can make it a bit too large for some, so anyone interested in the device may want to try and handle one before buying. The Galaxy Note II will be released on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon in the U.S., but the launch dates for those models has yet to be announced.

The Motorola DROID RAZR M claims the final spot on my list. The RAZR M touts a 4.3-inch display in a compact body and, although it currently runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Motorola has said that an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be released before the end of 2012. Also included with the RAZR M is a speedy dual-core processor and Verizon 4G LTE connectivity. For $99.99 with a two-year contract, the RAZR M is a nice option for Verizon customers looking for a new smartphone that won't be too hard on the wallet.

First and foremost, and shouldn't be of a surprise, the iPhone 5 leads the pack for me. With its stunning iconic design, this device leads the smartphone industry. The iPhone 5 is quick and snappy, due it the expensive manual placement of the GPU and CPU chips. 

Not far behind, the iPhone 4S is absolute! This mobile device makes a solid entry for me at number 2. I would call this mobile device a comparable budget-friendly alternative to the iPhone 5. 

From using a Motorola Razr Maxx extensively, I can't stress enough how reliable the battery life is. I always forget to charge this phone, because the battery life is so amazing! The battery life alone, brings this phone in at number three this week. I don't know how Motorola squeezes in a battery so big into a low-profile phone.

Fourth this week, the Samsung Galaxy S III is too fun not to list. Its beautiful smooth curves and giant screen gives way to the term 'pocket-tv,' because it really is. The warm UI, vibrant display, and ultrafast processor, make this phone a well-rounded package.

Fifth, with more potential to move up, the Razr M and its edge-to-edge display is one of the current underdogs in the mobile market. Motorola is emerging as the energy-king manufacturer, packing some fantastic battery life into the Razr M. This phone, alongside its soon to be released siblings, has very promising potential.
