The rumblings of an iPad mini have gotten pretty loud recently, with several reports claiming that this could be the year that the long-rumored device actually hits the market. At the end of August, it was said that Apple is planning to introduce its smaller iPad at an event some time in October, and now we've got a potential announcement date to circle on our calendars. Sources speaking to AllThingsD claim that the iPad mini is due to be unveiled at an event on October 23. The location has yet to be pinned down.
The original 9.7-inch iPad was unveiled back in January 2010, and it didn't even take a full year after that before the rumors of a smaller version began swirling. Many feel that we'll finally see the device launch before the end of 2012, though, with a 7.85-inch display and Lightning connector said to be included in the iPad mini's feature set. If this October 23 reveal holds true, it may be too much longer before invitations begin going out, so stay tuned and we'll give you a shout once Apple actually does send 'em.
UPDATE: The Loop's well-connected Jim Dalrymple has weighed in on this rumor, responding to it with a simple "Yep."
