Last night we got an early peek at an upcoming LG handset thought to be the Optimus G, and now it looks like we've gotten some official confirmation of some of the device's features thanks to LG itself. In a pair of press releases, one in English and the other in Korean, LG talks up its "next major smartphone" that it refers to by the codename "G." LG says that the phone will be vertically developed using the best components from LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek. Not only will the G be the first quad-core LTE handset with Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, LG says that it'll feature a battery that runs 60 percent more efficiently, with a lifespan of up to 800 charge cycles. 

Moving on to the front of the device, LG touts the phone's display as being clearer than a typical AMOLED display but also requiring less power. The screen will be of the True HD IPS+ variety, with a resolution of 1280x768 and 320ppi. Finally, the G will feature a G2 Touch Hybrid Display that LG says features no gap between the LCD panel and glass. This leads to a 30 percent reduction in the touchscreen panel's thickness.

While we're obviously still missing a few details about LG's G smartphone, so far it sounds like it could be something that Android fans interested in bleeding edge handsets ought to keep an eye out for. The translation of LG's Korean press release makes it sound as though the G could be launched there in September, and although we've yet to hear any U.S.-specific release news, the G's specs that we know so far make it sound a lot like the LG LS970 that's rumored to be hitting Sprint in the fourth quarter of this year.
