Hot on the heels of some images of what may be the new iPhone's battery, some purported shots of the device's smaller dock connector have made their way online. The shots, which originated at French site Nowhereelse.fr, show a small connector resting next to the USB portion of an Apple cable to show the size difference between the two. The connector looks to have eight gold pins on either side that would make contact with a component inside the device, and it also looks like it doesn't have a specific orientation that it must be inserted, unlike the 30-pin connector currently used by iOS devices, though that's tough to verify just by looking at a couple of images of the connector.
Keeping up with the new iPhone dock connector leaks, 9to5Mac has posted an image of what could be a portion of the dock connector opening on the iPhone itself. The part looks similar to the openings for dock connectors that we've seen with previous new iPhone leaks showing the device's back panel.
The smaller dock connector is one of the most oft-rumored new iPhone features to date. As with all iPhone rumors, nothing is official until Tim Cook and Co. make it so, but including a smaller dock connector in the next iOS smartphone could give Apple a bit more space inside the phone for other components like the battery. And don't worry if this smaller dock connector does indeed make the new iPhone cut, as Apple is also said to be prepping an adapter that'd allow use of 30-pin connector accessories with this new, shrunken version.
