We've already heard multiple times that the new iPhone may launch with a new, smaller dock connector, but a new report suggests that the handset won't be the only Apple device getting its port shrunken this year. A source speaking to iMore claims that Apple is planning to add the smaller dock connector to its entire iOS lineup as soon as its new iPhone event, which is said to be happening on September 12. That means that the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nano, iPad mini and 9.7-inch iPad may all feature the new connector. The purported reasoning behind the full switchover is that Apple believes that it's important for its line of iOS products to be consistent in the connector that they use.

While we expect a new iPhone, iPod touch and perhaps even a smaller iPad at this fall event, a refreshed 9.7-inch iPad might sound kind of strange considering that the current model launched in mid-March. Selling new products with two differently-sized dock connectors could be confusing for consumers, though, and so I could certainly see Apple updating the 9.7-inch iPad to feature a smaller connector. It's worth noting that it's been said that Apple will be selling adapters that'll allow iOS products with the shrunken connector to work with the 30-pin cables that are in use now. As I mentioned before, the fall iPhone event is rumored to be going down on September 12, so we've only got a little over another month before we find out just which rumors will hold true.
