Bad news for folks that've been considering springing for the 16GB Nexus 7 over its smaller 8GB brother, as the device is currently listed as "Coming Soon" on the Google Play store. Nearly a week ago the listing for the 16GB model showed that the device wouldn't be shipping out for another 3-4 weeks, but now interested customers can only sign up to be notified when the slate becomes available once again. Google hasn't officially commented on the situation, but sources speaking to The Guardian claim that Google underestimated how popular the 16GB model would be, thinking instead that more users would opt for the cheaper 8GB version.
While 8GB may sound like enough storage for some folks initially, that space can dwindle pretty quickly with a few games and movies, especially since there's a little less than 6GB available to the user. Combine that with the fact that the Nexus 7 doesn't have a microSD slot for owners to add storage, and it's not too surprising to hear that many are opting for the 16GB variant. It's not yet clear exactly when the 16GB Nexus 7 will become available once again, but if you're jonesing for some Jelly Bean and absolutely can't wait for the 16GB model to return, the 8GB Nexus 7 is currently listed as being "In Stock" with a delivery estimate of 3-5 business days. How many of you already own a Nexus 7 or have one on the way? Which size did you opt for?
