The lone tablet currently being made by Amazon is the 7-inch Kindle Fire, but according to a new report, that number of Amazon-branded slates available for purchase could soon increase dramatically. Demos Parneros, president of U.S. Retail for Staples, has told Reuters that Amazon is planning to unveil five or six tablet SKUs. Parneros claims that the devices will be different sizes, one of which will be 10 inches. There's no word on when these new tablets might launch or what kind of price tag they'll carry when they do.
We've recently heard that Amazon is prepping a new tablet with an 8.9-inch display that'll launch close to the holiday season, so it's possible that that's another screen size that Parneros was referring to. Of course, five to six tablets seems like an awful lot of different models, but it's entirely possible that Parneros is referring to only a couple of different tablets that'll come with varying amounts of built-in storage. As for when these new slates might debut, it's worth noting that the original Kindle Fire was introduced in late September 2011, so Amazon may be looking to unveil these new models around that same time. Are any of you interested in a new Amazon tablet or is another device, such as the Nexus 7 or new iPad, already your slate of choice?
