Remember how both the AT&T and Sprint versions of the Galaxy S III recently received updates to disable universal search? It sounds like Verizon's model may soon be getting the same treatment. According to Droid-Life, new Galaxy S III units that are being given out as replacements are coming with new software loaded onto them. The software is version I535VRLG1, while the version currently on most devices is I535VRLF2, and is said to include a new kernel and remove universal search. That means that rather than being able to conduct a search and get results from the Internet and items on the device, users will only get web results.

Samsung recently issued a statement on the aforementioned AT&T and Sprint Galaxy S III updates, explaining that the new software is meant to be a "precautionary measure." While there was no mention at the time of whether or not the Verizon and T-Mobile models would receive a similar update, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see one show up. This new Verizon Galaxy S III software appeared on a device given out a Verizon store, but there's no word yet on when it might roll out to all users.
