Shortly after a rumor teased that Verizon may soon be making some of its 4G LTE smartphones global ready, the carrier has made its plans officially official. Verizon just sent along a statement confirming that this summer, it'll be updating the HTC Rezound, Motorola DROID RAZR, Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX and Motorola DROID 4 for global use. The updates will allow users of those phones to access voice service in over 220 countries and data service in more than 205 countries. Owners of the handsets will be notified when their update is available, though Verizon didn't offer more precise timing on when it plans to release the updates outside of the aforementioned "summer" timeframe.

Verizon mentioned earlier this year that it'd eventually be updating some of its handsets to be global ready, and now we know which phones will be receiving updates and that the updates will be landing sometime this summer (though there's no mention of the LG Spectrum in today's announcement like there was in the previous one). As I've said before, global readiness may not be a feature that everyone clamors for, but it'll be a nice addition for those folks that are planning to travel overseas and don't want to bother getting a new phone just for that trip.
