It's that time of the month, folks. Google has posted its updated Android distribution figues on its official developers page, and it looks like Ice Cream Sandwich has grown a bit since we last checked the numbers. Android 4.0-4.0.4 was present on 2.9 percent of devices during the two-week period ending April 2nd, but that figure has jumped to 4.9 percent for the two-week period ending May 1st. ICS is still lagging behind the most-used version of Android by quite a bit, but things like the Nexus S 4G's upgrade and the arrival of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus did help Google's latest dessert to continue its climb.
As for the other versions of Android, not a ton has changed since last month. Android 3.0-3.2 Honeycomb continued to hold steady at 3.3 percent, while Android 2.3-2.3.7 Gingerbread retained its crown with a 64.4 percent share of all Android devices accessing Google Play within the 14-day period. Android 2.2 Froyo came in second but dropped from 23.1 percent last month to 20.9 percent this month. Rounding out the list we've got Android 2.1 Eclair with a 5.5 percent share, Android 1.6 Donut with 0.7 percent and Android 1.5 Cupcake with 0.3 percent.
While it's definitely kind of a bummer to see ICS still so far back from the likes of Froyo and Gingerbread, the good news is that adoption of Android 4.x grew quite a bit from last month. Expect that growth to continue as new devices come to market with ICS preloaded, like the HTC One S on T-Mobile and the upcoming HTC One X on AT&T. So now we have to ask: which version of Android are you currently rocking?
