Hot on the heels off of Samsung announcement that its new Exynos 4 Quad processor will be used in its "next Galaxy" device, a new report has claimed that those of us in the U.S. will actually see a different chip inside the Galaxy S3. According to an unnamed Samsung executive speaking to The Korea Times, the company will use its own quad-core chip in the HSPA+-enabled international model, but it'll opt for Qualcomm chips in the U.S. Android Central reports that it's been told similar information by its own sources, saying that LTE-enabled variants of the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. will feature a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. The reason for the switch to the dual-core S4 reportedly has to do with the inclusion of the U.S.-friendly LTE.
If true, this wouldn't be the first time that a device has participated in a little game of Processor Swap, as the HTC One X is available with a quad-core Tegra 3 chip and HSPA+ connectivity internationally, while the LTE version in the U.S. features a dual-core Snapdragon S4. That version is said to perform pretty well with its dual-core chip, though, and I'm sure Samsung will make sure that the S3s in the U.S. aren't slouches.
