Good news this afternoon for lovers of prepaid carriers and 4G connectivity, as a new report has suggested that both Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile will soon be hopping onto the 4G bandwagon. According to a source speaking to TechnoBuffalo, both Boost and Virgin plan to begin selling 4G devices capable of accessing Sprint's WiMAX network as soon as June. Virgin is said to be prepping a version of the HTC EVO 3D, which lines up with a previous rumor, as well as some of Sprint's other WiMAX devices. Meanwhile, yesterday a report claimed that Boost will be launching its own version of the HTC EVO Design 4G. Both carriers are purportedly planning to offer unlimited talk, text and data plans, though it's said that a customer's data speeds will be throttled after crossing the 2.5GB usage threshold.

While I'm sure some folks will be bummed that Boost and Virgin will be taking advantage of Sprint's old WiMAX network rather than its upcoming LTE coverage, the move to WiMAX should still be a nice change for customers used to 3G connectivity on the two carriers. Plus, the move will help Sprint to continue to get use out of the WiMAX network that it'll have access to through 2015. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of other WiMAX-capable products Boost and Virgin end up offering, but the EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G sound like solid starts.
