Sprint has said in the past that it'll be giving its iDEN push-to-talk network the axe as part of its Network Vision project, replacing it with the new Sprint Direct Connect service that launched late last year. The process of putting an end to iDEN will reportedly take another step this weekend, as a source speaking to TechnoBuffalo claims that Sprint will soon be pulling all its postpaid iDEN devices from its retail locations on April 15th.
This news may be a bit of a disappointment to those iDEN fans out there (however many there may be), but it's not a total shock considering that Sprint has begun work on decommissioning iDEN towers and is busy getting push-to-talk customers to jump to Direct Connect. There's also that rumored Direct Connect app that may be coming soon, which should help some folks leave their iDEN devices behind for some new hardware. We'll keep you posted on Sprint's move away from iDEN as we get it. Have any of you ever owned an iDEN device?
