Just a couple of weeks after U.S. Cellular launched its first 4G LTE tablet in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, today the carrier announced that its first 4G LTE smartphone is now available for purchase as well. The Samsung Galaxy S Aviator is up for sale on U.S. Cellular's website and is also in its stores and is priced at $199.99 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate, though U.S. Cellular says that customers in "select markets covered by [its] 4G LTE network" can snag an Aviator for $99.99 after $100 mail-in rebate for a limited time.
As for where U.S. Cellular's LTE network is currently available, select cities in Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin can currently claim to have access to U.S. Cellular LTE coverage. The carrier says that it expects to cover select markets in Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia in the second half of this year. By the end of 2012, U.S Cellular plans to have 54 percent of its customers covered by its LTE network.
The Samsung Galaxy S Aviator features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel shooter around front, 1.4GB of internal storage, 4G LTE support and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It's also packing, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and has a 1,600mAh battery powering the whole package. Some of its specs may be quite as bleeding edge as some other U.S. Cellular Android phones, but the Aviator is the only handset on U.S. Cellular's roster to tout LTE connectivity, so folks covered by the carrier's 4G coverage may want to check this device out.
