New month, new Android distribution numbers. Google has updated its Android version distribution chart to show which versions of the OS have been present on devices accessing the Android Market over the past 14 days. Android 4.0-4.0.3, also known by the much tastier Ice Cream Sandwich moniker, grew to 1.6 percent in the latest report, which is up from 1 percent last month. Next is Android 3.0-3.2 Honeycomb with a 3.3 percent share. Android 2.3-2.3.7 Gingerbread is by far the leader of the pack with 62 percent, an increase from 58.6 percent in February. Rounding out the list is Android 2.2 Froyo at 25.3 percent, Android 2.1 Eclair with 6.6 percent, Android 1.6 Donut with 0.8 percent and Android 1.5 Cupcake at 0.4 percent.
The latest Android distribution figures don't come as much of a surprise. We've yet to see very many devices come to market with or be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich, and there are still devices being released with Gingerbread preloaded. The good news is that some manufacturers should (hopefully) begin kicking off some updates to ICS in the next month or so, so here's to hoping that we'll see ICS grow a bit more than 0.6 percent the next time that Google updates its Android distribution numbers.
