Tomorrow Apple is holding a big event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco where the company is expected to take the wraps off of the iPad 3. We still don't know when the thing will actually go on sale, but today 9to5 Mac has suggested a date on which the new iPad may hit retail: Friday, March 16th. This news comes to the site from an Apple Store source that's "been reliable in the past." The tipster also claims that Apple is planning an event for a week later, but it's not clear if this gathering is meant for an international iPad 3 launch, a new Apple TV or something else entirely.
Keeping up with the iPad 3 leaks, a report out of Reuters today claims that "a source familiar with the product" has told it that the new device will include 4G LTE connectivity. Support for LTE is one of the more oft-rumored features of the iPad 3.
Last year, Apple announced the iPad 2 on Wednesday, March 2nd and put it up for sale on Friday, March 11th. Taking that into consideration, a March 16th launch for the iPad 3 makes sense. As far as how much the new iPad will cost whenever it does go on sale, we've heard that Apple is planning to keep the prices of the different iPad 3 models the same as what it currently asks for the iPad 2. Apple's iPad event kicks off tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Pacific/1:00 p.m. Eastern, so be sure to keep it locked to PhoneDog to get all of the official iPad 3 info as its announced!
