Looks like a nice mid-weekend surprise has surfaced for Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners. The story goes that one Galaxy Nexus owner over in the Android Central forums recently got an unexpected notification on his handset alerting him that an update to Android 4.0.4 was available to download. After working with some other forumgoers, the update has now been made available to all Verizon Galaxy Nexus users that aren't afraid to get their hands a little dirty by tweaking their device and installing a custom ROM. There's no official changelog for the update, which is build IMM30B, but so far users that have loaded it up have reported faster 3G/4G switching, a new power menu and a number of speed enhancements.
Sound good? If you want to give this leaked update a go yourself, you can find a download link and instructions on how to install the thing at the Android Central link below. The usual caveats about installing leaked/unofficial updates apply here, meaning that you may want to stay away unless you're comfortable with flashing things on your phone and that PhoneDog's not responsible if you decide to give it a go and end up borking something. As for folks that are waiting for an official version to be pushed to their handsets over the air, there's no word yet on when the update will actually be released, so sit tight and we'll be sure to pass along more details as we get them. As usual, be sure to stop by our comments section below if you decide to install this leaked update so you can let us know how it's working for you!
