Interested in an update on just how quickly your little green robot is growing, Android fans? Tonight Andy Rubin took to his Google+ account to give us the freshest figure, saying that there are now over 700,000 Android-powered device activations each and every day. Rubin went on to clarify his announcement, adding that Google only counts each device once and that an "activation" occurs when a person goes into a store, buys a phone and then subscribes to a wireless service.
The last time we got word on daily Android activations from Rubin, the number was sitting at 500,000, and then before that it was the figure was 300,000 daily activations in December 2010. That works out to 200,000 daily activations being added every 6 months, which is pretty steady (and impressive) growth. Whether or not that rate of growth will continue into 2012 is anyone's guess, but for now I'd say that activating 700,000 devices every day is a milestone worth celebrating with a round of ice cream sandwiches.
