A couple of days ago word began to spread that Motorola was prepping one of its "projects" for the Motorola Xoom on Verizon, but at the time it wasn't clear what precisely the update might contain. A new email from Moto has revealed exactly what the project is for and, unfortunately, it's got nothing to do with dessert. Turns out that the update is a relatively minor one that is meant to bring "improved support for pay-as-you-go customers on Verizon," not Ice Cream Sandwich like many had been hoping for. The good news is that those involved in the test can expect the update sometime around the middle of the day tomorrow, with a decision being made about a public release later on Friday.
Obviously this news is kind of a bummer for Xoom owners out there, but it would've been pretty surprising if this update actually turned out to be Android 4.0. The good news is we know that a bump up to ICS is coming to the Xoom at some point, so it's just a question of exactly when that update will begin rolling out. We've yet to hear any official details on that matter from Motorola, but as usual, you can be sure we'll let you know more about the Xoom-flavored Ice Cream Sandwich when we do.
