Ready for the latest iPhone 5 rumor du jour? Today's report comes courtesy of the folks over at 9to5 Mac, who have gotten their hands on an alleged next generation iPhone case from a source similar to one that previously provided accurate design outlines for the iPad 2. The case shows a design that's thinner than the iPhone 4 and has a curved backside that looks similar to the mockup found here. Other changes include a mute switch that's switched sides and is now next to the camera and new volume controls that are similar to the ones found on the iPod touch.
This isn't the first time that we've heard rumors that the new iPhone will feature a new, tapered design, as a report from earlier this year claimed that one design being considered for the handset looked more like an iPod touch than the iPhone 4. The majority of reports allege that the iPhone 5 will feature a design that's similar to the current iPhone, but 9to5 Mac suggests that Apple may just be testing the new iPhone's guts inside the body of an iPhone 4 to keep everything a secret. The good news is that we're getting closer and closer to the next gen iPhone's purported September debut, meaning that the iPhone 5 rumors will soon be coming to an end. Of course, that also means that the iPhone 6 rumors will likely kick off shortly thereafter. Such is life.
