Another week has begun, and it's time to help kick off the charge into the latter half of July with a fresh baked batch of iPhone rumors. A report out out of BGR this morning claims that not only is Apple planning to sell a cheap iPhone later this year, but that it'll supplement the cheaper option by offering the current iPhone 4 as well as the new iPhone 4S/5. First up, the cheap model. According to BGR's "incredibly solid source," Apple will introduce a low-cost iPhone that will cost no more than $350 sans contract. It's not clear exactly what kind of device this could be, but it's said that Apple may just keep the iPhone 3GS around and place it as the low-end option. The Cupertino-based firm is also reportedly planning to continue sales of the current iPhone 4 and slot it in the mid-range.
Moving on to the all-new iPhone, the tipster alleges that the the new handset will be released "at least announced by the end of Summer, late August-ish.” The source wasn't able to confirm whether the next gen iPhone will feature a revamped body or if it'll feature an iPhone 4-like design.
Moving to a low, mid, and high-end plan of attack would be an interesting move from Apple, and it would be decidedly different from the way the company has done things in the past. Certainly the iPhone 3GS is starting to get a tad long in the tooth at this point, but it could make for a pretty compelling choice if customers were able to use it with AT&T's pre-paid service.
