When news came out that HTC would no longer be using locked bootloaders on its Android devices, one of the first questions that popped into everyone's minds was, "What about the Sensation 4G?" Well, we may finally have an answer, friends, courtesy of an HTC customer support representative. Below is a "stock" answer from a rep that hints that HTC may be prepping a software update for the Sensation 4G that would unlock its bootloader and make tinkering with the device much, much easier. The statement from the HTC rep is as follows:
"We are currently developing new bootloader unlocked software for your phone. HTC is still committed to allowing our customers to unlock the bootloaders if they wish, however we are still implementing the policy and many updates were already finalized prior to our change in policy. We apologize for the inconvenience, but be assured that we are working on a solution for our customers and our commitment has not changed. Please stay tuned to our official channels for ongoing updates on how we will be implementing this policy. Thank you for your patience.”
The Sensation 4G is one of the most anticipated Android phones of the year, so it's good to hear that HTC may be planning to unlock the device's bootloader and widen its appeal, especially among the Android hacking community. So, now that the reviews are in and the Sensation 4G will be arriving in stores within the next week, who's going to take the plunge?
