Motorola recently updated the DROID X to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a Moto employee confirmed that others would be coming soon. Unfortunately for those customers not on Verizon, all of the devices that the employee mentioned were DROIDs. According to a report from BriefMobile, though, the Atrix 4G could also be partaking in the Gingerbread fun soon. The site claims that Moto and AT&T will be rolling Android 2.3 out to the Atrix sometime this month or next. The folks at BriefMobile also managed to get their own hands on a beta version of the Atrix's 2.3 update and, although they don't plan to share the build with anyone else, they did post a short video walkthrough of the update along with a few details. Along with all of the usual Gingerbread goodness, the update will bring Moto's new version of Blur (also found on the DROID X2/DROID X running GB), an improved camera app, better power management, and, of course, the ability to sideload apps. You can check out the quick clip below.
The Atrix 4G is one of Moto's most high-end phones on the market right now, so it was always a question of when, not if, it would be updated to Android 2.3. So far the update looks pretty nice, and I'm sure that there will be more than a few users happy to see the new, slightly tweaked version of Blur replacing the old skin on the device. Atrix 4G owners, you can be sure that we'll let you know more about your handset's Gingerbread update when we hear it, so stay tuned.
