I think everyone here was expecting the T-Mobile G2X to end up on a Top Smartphones list at some point, so it's not too surprising that we've made it number one. With its dual-core 1 GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera that captures full 1080p HD video, and super-fast HSPA+ capabilities, this one is kind of a no-brainer. The G1 was ground-breaking and brought on a new era, the G2 was just as fantastic, and now the G2X is more than worthy of taking the reins. The stock build of Android may not be for everyone and it is kind of a bummer that it doesn't ship with Android 2.3, but you still can't deny the raw power of this beast.

The myTouch 4G has still managed to hold a strong spot at number two, which also attests to its power, and with the Nexus S rounding out this list at number three, I'd say that T-Mobile has one of the best smartphone lineups right now. Pros

Battery life is decent, but still falls behind devices like the iPhone

Summary

The T-Mobile G2x is one of the best Android smartphones on the market at the moment. As if the dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor wasn't enough, the stock build of Android 2.2 makes the phone fly through everyday tasks with ease. Seriously, it's unusually fast. The 4-inch display, while nothing special, is an excellent balance between 3.7 and 4.3 inches, and the 8-megapixel camera does an excellent job shooting 1080p video. There are more exciting devices coming later in the year, but if you're buying now, the G2x is the way to go.

2. T-Mobile myTouch 4G

Pros

1 GHz next-generation Snapdragon processor makes the myTouch 4G fast (in unofficial testing, it blew past competing Android devices)
The phone feels like a high-end product - the battery door is metal, and the device doesn't creak when squeezed
The 5.0-megapixel camera works well, and you get a front-facing camera for video calling
The battery life is surprisingly good for an Android phone
myTouch 4G is HSPA+ capable, so it can take advantage of T-Mobile's super fast 4G speeds
Mobile Hotspot and Wi-Fi calling capabilities
Available in several colors (black, plum, white, and red)

Cons

The myTouch-tweaked version of HTC's Sense UI may not appeal to everyone

Originally a consumer-centric brand, the myTouch 4G's feature set appeals to several demographics. With a next-generation 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.2 (with HTC Sense) out of the box, a 3.8-inch display, Mobile Hotspot, Wi-Fi calling, HSPA+ (4G) connectivity, and several color choices, the myTouch 4G is the most well-rounded smartphone available on T-Mobile.

3. Google Nexus S

Pros

Vanilla Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) out of the box
1 GHz Hummingbird processor is fast
4-inch Super AMOLED display is beautiful, and plays to Gingerbread's color scheme
5-megapixel camera works well, and front-facing camera is a bonus

Cons

Plastic design may sway buyers to something else, like the myTouch 4G or G2.
Sales model still isn't the best - you can only purchase it at Best Buy

Summary

The Nexus S, Google's newest "Experience Device," is a nice little upgrade from the Nexus One. Though the plastic body may be perceived as a downgrade, the addition of a front-facing camera, NFC support, and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) makes it worth considering. That said, while the sales model is better, it still needs work. The Nexus S can only be purchased at Best Buy, so it misses out on T-Mobile's Equipment Installment Program and isn't getting the full visibility and marketing support that the carrier could provide.
