There have been quite a few rumors surrounding Sprint and the possibility of it adopting LTE in the past, which has current WiMAX users wondering if their current tech will soon be obsolete. Luckily, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse has come along to assuage your fears. Speaking at the Deutsche Bank AG Media & Telecom Conference, Hesse said that "every option" for its future involves both WiMAX and Clearwire. The CEO also said that he'd like to see more network sharing between the two companies, which would involve Clearwire selling some of its network capacity to Sprint and other carriers. Unfortunately, Hesse didn't comment on the recent Sprint/T-Mobile rumors.
Sprint's going to make a decision on the LTE switch some time in the next four to six months, but it's good to know that, even if they do make the change, WiMAX won't disappear from existence. There's no telling if Sprint would continue to build out its WiMAX network if a switch to LTE does occur, but the carrier could offer both 4G networks concurrently for a while.
