Dell's really been upping their smartphone game as of late, launching handsets like the Venue Pro and Venue, and a newly-leaked roadmap shows that they've got no intentions of slowing down in 2011. On the Windows Phone 7 side of things, we've got the Venue Pro MLK in Q2, which the folks at WPCentral says means "Medialess License Kit" and and has to do with that big WP7 update that Microsoft's been talking up lately. Next up is the Dell Wrigley, which looks poised to arrive in July 2011 and features a "next gen" version of WP7, meaning that a new version of the OS — possibly Mango — will ship preloaded on the handset. Other specs of the Wrigley include a 1GHz processor, 4-inch 800x480 display, a 8 megapixel camera with 720p video capture, and what looks like a physical keyboard.
As we all know, Dell loves both WP7 and Android, and to show that love they'll be pushing out a couple of new Android-powered handsets later this year. First up is the Hancock, which looks set to arrive in late August or early September. The most interesting aspect of the Hancock is that it'll feature "Android Ice Cream," adding credence to the rumors that the new OS will arrive some time this summer. Besides the new frozen Android treat, the Hancock will feature a dual-core CPU, 4-inch qHD (960x540) display, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. Following the Hancock, we have the Dell Millennium arriving in mid-October 2011. The Millennium appears to be a full-touch handset with Ice Cream, a dual-core processor, 4.3-inch 960x540 screen, 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, VGA FFC, and DLNA support.
Finally, another leaked Dell roadmap has revealed that the company has several tablets coming down the pipeline. Spec information is pretty much nonexistent, but we've got some names and launch windows: Dell Gallo with Honeycomb around April 2011, Dell Opus One and Silver Oak with Honeycomb in early Q1 2012. Considering how far off the last two devices are, I wouldn't be shocked if they end up coming preloaded with something newer than Android 3.0.
While I'm not sure if we'll every be completely rid of the bad taste in our mouths from the Aero, Dell is certainly becoming a serious competitor in the smartphone game. The Venue Pro has been generally well-received, and judging by this roadmap, Dell will be bringing the heat throughout 2011. I just wish we had a clue as to which carriers will offer the devices. Also, considering the specs of the new handsets, I wouldn't mind seeing Dell push out a couple more phones in 2011, especially ones running WP7. What do you all think of Dell's 2011 lineup?
