The HTC ThunderBolt, Verizon's LTE-capable powerhouse of a device, was rumored to hit store shelves on February 14th. And since today is Valentine's Day and we still don't have the device available for purchase, we can start hoping that the February 24th date rings true. The rumored delay of the handset was covered in speculation and confusion, as there was seemingly no reason why the HTC manufactured handset would be delayed. An anonymous tipster believes that it has everything to do with the iPhone 4's launch on February 10th.
The tipster suggests that the fact that the ThunderBolt release date has been pushed to the 24th isn't a coincidence. If you'll remember, Verizon changed their return period, or the wireless carrier's Worry Free exchange period, to 14 days. So, with the launch of the iPhone 4 on the 10th, that marks the 24th as 14 days after the iPhone 4's official launch on the carrier's network. Purchasers of the iPhone 4 who want the ThunderBolt will have only one day to make the exchange happen before they're not able to, or are faced with huge fees to make the switch. The ThunderBolt's $250 price tag might make some people second-guess the switch, anyway. Coincidence? Perhaps. But let's face it: it would make sense for Verizon to push back the release of another huge phone to make sure sales of the iPhone 4 went well. As if it needed any help, though.
