We told you around a week ago that Verizon was planning to give its New Every Two policy the axe, and now they've confirmed that that is indeed the plan.  Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon confirmed that NE2 will be ending on January 16th and will also be extending the length of time a subscriber has to wait before they're eligible to upgrade at a reduced price.  Previously, customers were able to re-up at around the 13-month mark, but now they'll have to wait until 20 months into their contract for a cheaper handset.

Like I said when we first heard this news, it's pretty disappointing that Verizon customers will have to wait even longer to upgrade to a new phone considering how quickly devices get outdated.  I've always been a proponent of trying to get phones for full retail or on one-year contracts, but not everyone is able to do that because of the cost involved, especially when it comes to smartphones.  Verizon may be making a lot of their customers happy by getting the iPhone, but I have a feeling that they're going to leave a sour taste in the mouths of a lot of others with this news.
