Android 2.3 has only been out a month and we're still waiting for Honeycomb to arrive, but a new rumor suggests that the next version of Android will arrive sooner than some may expect. According to unnamed sources speaking to Pocket-lint, Ice Cream is going to launch in either June or July of this year. The tipsters claim that Ice Cream will be version 2.4 and will be announced a Google I/O at the beginning of May.
We've heard in the past that Google was planning to launch Ice Cream in the middle of 2011, although that rumor claimed that it would be version 4.0 of Android. I'd previously speculated that version 2.4 would simply be Gingerbread again, but it's entirely possible that Ice Cream could end up as 2.4 instead of 4.0. We've heard in the past that Android updates were going to be slowed to two per year, meaning that if this Ice Cream rumor holds true, we may not be seeing the J Android upgrade until 2012.
