Motorola's XOOM tablet looks like it could be a huge hit when it arrives on Verizon some time in the first quarter, and a new rumor shows that Moto is expecting big sales of the tablet when it launches. According to sources speaking to Digitimes, Motorola is planning to ship between 700,000 and 800,000 XOOMs in the first quarter alone. The tipsters also claim that Moto's Honeycomb-powered tablet will be available in four different colors. Finally, it appears that Google may have manufacturers that they prefer over others, as Digitimes' sources allege that Motorola and Samsung are Google's "priority partners," with LG and HTC next in line.
In other XOOM-related news, it appears that Moto's tablet will come packed with an unlikely addition: a barometer. Android 2.3 is the first version of the OS to feature barometer support, and its inclusion in the XOOM could help the device make more accurate weather reports.
Considering that the XOOM will be the first tablet to market with Honeycomb in tow, I've got no doubt that it'll sell well when it comes later in the first quarter. Those sales will be pushed even farther if it ends up coming in different colors, because sometimes it's nice to be able to buy a device in something besides generic black plastic. I don't know about you, but I'd love to see a XOOM offered in an all-white body when it launches. How many of you are planning on picking up a XOOM? Is there a certain color that you'd like to see Moto's tablet in?
