There are a lot of smartphone platforms out there that are constantly innovating and vying for your attention, and it can be tough to stick to one OS without at least considering jumping ship to another.  A new survey shows that a lot of you agree, as 56 percent of smartphone owners in "key global markets" weren't totally committed to their current OS.  Only 25 percent of users said that they planned to stick with the platform that they're using now, with Apple users showing the most loyalty at 59 percent.  The least loyal users belong in the Microsoft camp, with only 21 percent of owners staying with their Windows-based handsets.  As for the remaining OSes and the number of loyal users they command, the breakdown looks like this: BlackBerry with 35 percent, Android at 28 percent, and Symbian with 24 percent.  Finally, the survey found that 37 percent of non-smartphone users plan to upgrade to a smartphone with their next purchase.

We've seen a similar report in the past, and the fact that iPhone users are sticking with iOS has remained mostly true.  What surprises me, though, is that only 28 percent of Android owners plan to buy another Android phone next; the last survey saw 71 percent of Android users staying with the platform.  Certainly, they're two different surveys from two different organizations at two different times, but it's still interesting.  The news that more and more dumbphone/feature phone users are switching to smartphones isn't a shock, as it's something that we've been seeing for some time now.  Smartphones are getting faster, prettier, and easier to use, so the mainstream is becoming more and more attracted to the idea of these connected devices with tons of apps.  Now it's time for a little informal survey of our own: smartphone owners, which OS do you currently use?  Do you plan to switch to a different platform when it's time for another purchase?
