Ever since Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab, considered by many to be the first Android tablet to compete with the iPad, we've all been wondering just how well Samsung's device is being received by consumers. It turns out that the Tab is doing pretty well for itself according to The Korean Herald, which is reporting that Samsung has sold 600,000 Galaxy Tabs worldwide in the first month of availability. The number is said to be confirmed by Samsung, who should be pretty happy with the numbers. The Korean Herald is reporting that the Tab sold 30,000 units in its first week in Korea, though the site also notes that there have been 40,000 pre-orders for Apple's iPad, which is launching on November 30th.
There are a couple of reasons that I'm glad to see the Galaxy Tab doing so well. First of all, I'm just happy for any product to succeed, especially when it's a device like a tablet. That leads me into my second point, which is that it's great to see consumers adopting tablets like the Tab and iPad so readily. In the past, tablets haven't exactly been runaway successes, but now that Samsung and Apple's products have proven to be popular with the mainstream, it could pave the way for an entire wave of tablets. We already know that manufacturers like HTC, Motorola, and BlackBerry are bringing tablets to market soon, and with all of these new products, I'm sure we're going to see some great innovation brought to the table, as well.
